Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 7 am–4 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Charlotte is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Charlotte is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I am big on supporting Black Owned businesses. We were in Charlotte and googled black-owned coffee shops. Lottie’s was a great find. The atmosphere was great. I had the avocado toast with the Blueberry pancake iced latte. My husband had the breakfast sandwich and an iced latte. Both of us were very pleased with our orders, which came out quickly. Everyone was very friendly.

Tried this coffee shop since it was conveniently located right across the street from our hotel. Very clean and bright atmosphere. Staff were extremely kind as well. We tried the cookie butter lattes, brisket bagel sandwich, and avocado toast. Coffees and food were great. Priced as you’d image for a city. We went back multiple times throughout our trip to Charlotte.

My family and I were looking for a coffee shop with dairy free options. I explained my allergies and asked if they change the steamer before heating the milk. An amazing lady told me: “I can throughly clean the steamer to ensure you can safely enjoy your coffee”. She went above and beyond. In other coffee places, the answer was: We use the same steamer for all milks. My family also enjoyed amazing lemon muffins. Coffees were delicious. I truly appreciate the kindness and compassion showed.

Lottie’s Café is clearly a local favorite—there was a literal line out the door when we visited, which always says something. The space itself is a really nice, welcoming café right in Charlotte with a great energy to start your day. The standout for me was the Airplane latte—an awesome Biscoff blend that was unique and genuinely delicious. Definitely worth ordering. The food was good overall, but the portions were surprisingly small, which was the only downside. Still, it’s a great spot for breakfast, especially if you’re more focused on quality and vibes than a big, filling meal.

Where do I begin??? We absolutely loved this place. Family owned and operated and they make you feel like you’re family while you are there. One of the sisters who co-owns, Alicia, greeted us as soon as we came in and helped us decide what to try: We came here for lunch on Saturday and it was so good- we had to come again on Sunday before we left town. I was literally dreaming about the sandwich- which I requested open-faced. Not only did they accommodate the request- the chef/ co-owner Ashley came to our table to make sure she understood the request. She did. I’m already thinking of reasons to come back to Charlotte so we can come here again! My husband had the heavenly chicken club. I don’t think they make anything that isn’t a home run. Ladies- thank you for one of our most memorable experiences! And don’t forget to check out their awesome boutique located right next door. Nostalgia Hollow could hold its own against the similar shops in SoHo. We were thrilled to find multiple pieces of stylish and sleek clothes- with great prices. Is there anything these women can’t do?? I don’t think so!
